The Qualify SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality is designed to maximise student engagement through our dynamic blended delivery learning modes. Our nationally recognised, practical training, provides students with the opportunity to develop all the essential skills for working in Hospitality.

You will gain industry insight, food and beverage knowledge, customer service and team skills and select from a range of electives including the valuable Food Safety, Espresso Coffee Making and RSA certificates. You will also be supported in participating in a practical work experience placement to consolidate and showcase your skills.

This course provides a dynamic and engaging learning experience designed to provide students with the essential skills to work in the Hospitality industry. You will develop a broad range of hospitality skills and food and beverage knowledge and will have the option of selecting a range of units including Barista - espresso coffee making, RSA, RSG and Food Handlers Certificate

Entry requirements

There are no prerequisites to gain entry into SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality. Students will need to;

  • Have regular access to a computer and to a reliable internet connection
  • Basic to intermediate computer, or digital device, navigation skills
  • Meet the basic language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) requirements for the course, including communicating effectively with your trainer and industry in English
  • The ability and willingness to study lesson material and complete assessment activities
  • Be physically able to undertake the practical placement
  • PDF reader software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat) installed on your computer or the digital device

Course Structure

To achieve this qualification, you need to successfully complete 15 units of study with a minimum of 524 nominal hours. This consists of 7 core units plus 8 elective units. Units have been clustered into topic groups to assist with learning concepts and to avoid duplication.

**Available in Practical trainer facilitated workshops or workplace based.


Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills. This includes completing projects, written questions or tests and practical work. Practical placement is a requirement to successfully complete this course. This course can also be completed as a traineeship.

Pathways and outcomes

The course provides a general vocational outcome in hospitality and pathway into employment or further training such as the Certificate IV in Hospitality. Possible career options include to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. Job roles may include:

  • Barista / espresso coffee machine operator
  • Waiter/Waitress
  • Bar attendant
  • Front desk receptionist
  • Function attendant / host
  • Gaming attendant
  • Guest services
  • Restaurant host

Upon successful completion of all units of competency, you will be issued with the SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality qualification. In the case that you successfully complete one, or some, but not all of the units of competency within the course, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the unit/s that you have completed.
